AN HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
THE BEGINNING
The Queenie and Herc Project now appears as a narrowly focused internet-based business with a single debut product. This represents a subset and evolution of grander designs that might still be accomplished, but which are dependent on the success of this first, very grass-roots effort to entertain you, the public.
Historically, the project was born in Las Vegas, Nevada in November of 2000 as an inspiration to develop the foundation for the production of a romantic comedy movie. But, as the Queenie and Herc story emerged, it became clear that, with little modification, it was suitable for a far broader set of entertainment venues, some far more easily developed considering the reality of limited resources and a lack of connections into the entertainment industry. Clearly, the most demanding of all the potential Queenie and Herc project activities in resources and support would be the production and distribution of a movie. Seeking the support necessary for this final prize, would need to capitalize on the visibility provided by the synergism of other less demanding project activities that precede it.
Thus, a new business-oriented plan was needed to build a framework upon which, Queenie and Herc, the Story, might gradually grow to live up to its inspiration and perceived potential, while maintaining its artistic integrity. Fortunately, as a story based in the 1960’s, Queenie and Herc is not dependent on the latest fad for excitement, humor, or romance. It shouldn’t get old very fast. Thus, there was no urgency that would prompt short cuts, and the project settled in for what would be a long period of development and refinement.
THE PLAN EVOLVES
The primary focus was redirected towards first producing a novel, but one in which the story was carefully aligned with activities that would be plausible and feasible for both movie and stage presentation. Members of a broad spectrum of the movie-going public--several with theater background--were asked to interpret various early manuscripts both for their reading pleasure as well as to imagine those same scenes on the stage and big screen. Those readers’ inputs were invaluable to the refinement of the story and in building further confidence in continuing the development of Queenie and Herc’s multiple entertainment potential.

Development of the Queenie and Herc website began timidly about four man-years ago, with the intent on it becoming, among other things, the foundation for the promotion of all aspects of the project. Whereas, this still remains true, the website’s mission gradually morphed into far more than originally intended, simultaneously becoming a new browser-based platform for storytelling and providing its own marketing into other entertainment venues.
Story Clues. The highly structured, multi-level headings of the novel’s Table of Contents  provided the initial insight into the presentation structure you find here now. Long before there was even a serious consideration for an on-line novel viewer, the Table of Contents provided anchor points for Story Clues: pop-up windows containing visuals and sound effects about what was going on at the corresponding point in the story.
Story Clues began as simple stand-alone animations and visuals that required little in the way of preparation or processing, but they established the groundwork necessary to be able to see the next step. The vision of thoroughly storyboarding the novel, and providing a browser-based viewer, came with the first successful attempts at creating visuals and sound effects for the story’s scenes. Suddenly one could see the possibility of bringing to life the characters, scenes and humor. While there was certainly naiveté about how much effort, or how long this would take, the idea launched the next significant phase of development that led to today’s product. (How it all works  .)

Data Design Considerations 
Clearly, practical and strategic considerations both drove the convergence of the Queenie and Herc Project into today’s multi-media presentation of the novel. Expect it to continue to improve and evolve. It is the foundation upon which we will seek future support for more demanding future projects, such as a movie version. And, success with the on-line novel would allow far more creative flexibility and control of such a venture. Thus, every new member that signs up to read the on-line novel will effectively cast a vote for such a possibility.
